Goat Hearts/Meat Needed Urgently!

Asked January 19, 2017, 10:12 AM EST

I own a small dog food company in Orlando Fl. We normally use goat meat, specifically the hearts but any boneless cut will do, to feed dogs with allergies. Our normal supplier is completely sold out until mid February so I am looking for anywhere between 1 and 500 pounds of meat to hold us over. If anyone knows where I can source this please let me know asap as we are running low! Substitution using another protein source is not an option.

I have a few suggestions:

1. Check with your local USDA slaughtering facilities that processed goats in your area they might be able to sell you some goats. Check this listing to locate a slaughtering facility in Floria http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/an203

2. Contact IFAS extension office in Orange county they may know quite a few goat producers in your area that have animals for sale. http://orange.ifas.ufl.edu/ .
There are also a lot of goat producers in Marion county, Fl http://www.marioncountyfl.org/departments-agencies/departments-a-n/extension-service

3. You can also buy live goats at livestock auctions, but you will need to slaughter them yourself or take them to a custom or USDA facility to have them processed. https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=goat+livest...

4. There is also one goat association that I am aware of in the state that may also be able to help you http://fdga.org/ and the American Goat Federation has an extensive list of goat producers, but most of the farms are located out of the state of Florida https://americangoatfederation.org/

Thanks for your help. The doggies appreciate it!
