The plant on the left looks like a type of holly.
The plant on the right looks like it may be Mahonia bealei, Leatherleaf Mahonia, a native of China. It has been planted as an ornamental and is invading woodlands in the southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states. This plant is invasive. If you confirm, then you should target for removal.
