Meat processing: Rabbit/poultry

Asked January 5, 2017, 5:30 PM EST

Hello, I've read.... http://smallfarms.oregonstate.edu/. But, I am still unclear on how this affect me. I am thinking about selling eggs, poultry and rabbit for meat. I believe I would be exempt from anything, but needing a business license to handle eggs, rabbit, and 1000 or less poultry. Are you able to answer my question or can you provide a contact for me to further explore this? Thank you so much!

Meat rabbits that you wish to sell to any consumer must be processed in a state-licensed, custom-exempt facility.

If you are planning to process 1000 birds or less, you would be considered exempt from needing a state processing license, given that the poultry is sold

at the farm where it was raised and processed. There are some record keeping and labeling requirements.

You may need an egg handlers license depending on where and to whom you are planning to sell eggs. You would be considered exempt if you are selling ungraded eggs directly to the an individual customer. Otherwise you'll need a state-issued license. https://www.oregon.gov/ODA/programs/FoodSafety/FSLicensing/Pages/Eggs.aspx
