I am assuming your talking about the Black sticky gumbo soil when you said back soil?

It is possible, it will take some work. The black gumbo soil is rich in nutrients, which causes the black color but its also hard to get drainage? The higher pH is going to be an issue so you will have to do some soil modifications to increase drainage and open the pores up. Did you take a soil sample to test for nutrient levels?
