Care of Milkweed Plants

Asked December 27, 2016, 8:09 PM EST

My community, Southaven which is on the South River, has planted a monarch garden with different varieties of milkweed. Several neighbors also have planted milkweed. Our question: should we mulch or do anything else for the milkweeds this winter? Thank you,

Milkweed as the name implies is basically a weed and really does not need special care in the winter. It is not necessary to mulch it. Come late winter, early spring you can cut it back by about 1/3rd if necessary.
