Pruning Maples

Asked December 14, 2016, 12:51 PM EST

Good afternoon, We live in Timonium & have 2 Maple trees that need pruning to eliminate excess, dead, and crossing branches. One's a Silver Maple, quite old; the other is a young Norway maple, planted 2000. What's the best time for pruning? Is late December a good time? Thanks for any insight you can provide us.

Yes, late December is a good time to prune a maple tree. No only is timing important but also proper technique is crucial. Proper pruning cuts allow the tree to seal off the wounds created by pruning in an efficient manner.
