Chicken parasite

Asked December 13, 2016, 9:10 PM EST

Our chickens have the heterakis gallinarum virus. We don't know how to treat them, what to do. We have 16 chickens left, 3 have died in the last month. We have 2 that are looking really sick now and some that are not looking too happy and some that are a picture of good health!
We had our vet diagnose the condition and he recommended we contact you for information. He thinks they will be passing the histamines bug around.
Please advise

We are sorry to hear of this situation with your flock. In Vermont, questions related to poultry health are best answered by the Animal Health division of the Vt. Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets [VAAFM](http://agriculture.vermont.gov/animal_health) or a veterinarian; UVM Extension does not have a poultry expert on staff.

Contact VAAFM at: AGR.AnimalHealth@state.vt.us [email] OR (802) 828-2421 [phone].

The extension.org "Small and Backyard Flocks" resources are available for other poultry questions (http://articles.extension.org/poultry).
