planting amaryllis

I received an amaryllis bulb but it is covered in wax and has a wire where the roots should be. Do I need to remove this before planting?

Thanks for your amaryllis question! I'm assuming that the floral shop covered the bulb in wax to slow down its growth, but haven't a clue why anyone would attach a wire! But the short answer is that, yes, you need to remove both the wire and the wax, which will impede the bulb's growth and flowering. The University of Minnesota has a great article about amaryllis planting and care, and you can find loads of information here.

Hope it's helpful, and good luck!
