So here is my question... i have a house that was built in 1986. It has the original garage doors. This door does NOT have the sensors at the bottom of the door... the garage door sometimes will go down no problem.. it goes up no problem.. but sometimes i click either the remote in my vehicle or in the garage and the door will go down a foot then go back up. it will sometimes do this 4/5 times.. sometimes not at all. its very annoying.. i need help.

One of two things may be going on here.

  1. The track and rollers may be getting dirty and dry. Wipe them down with a rag and lubricate sparingly with a light oil or white grease that is non-staining. Any binding on the track will cause the door to stop and go back up,
  2. The motor may be getting weak in the opener. If the lubrications not work and you do not find other points where the door binds as it goes down, you may want to start looking for a replacement opener.
