blueberry pruning

Asked November 25, 2016, 4:49 PM EST

I have 14 year old blueberry plants that have never been pruned. They are now 8 feet tall and getting very spindly. How should I prune these to get them to a manageable height and get new canes growing?

Blueberries are a favorite of northwest gardener, in part, because they’re prolific producers. “Growing Blueberries in Your Home Garden” describes the fundamentals of growing, training, and pruning blueberries: https://catalog.extension.oregonstate.edu/sites/catalog/files/project/pdf/ec1304.pdf. And here’s an excellent video: “How to Prune a Blueberry Bush” - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fm6ZfpGy5oQ
