I am interested in starting an indoor aquaculture business. I have done enough research to see that there is a market, however, I need a resource to ask questions of as I create my business plan. Is there someone there that I can consult with? Can you suggest networking partners for me in my general geographic area that may be able to confer with me?

There is a substantial learning curve with indoor systems and while the market seems feasible initial capital costs are high as are failure rates. With that said we are seeing increasing interests with recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) and aquaponics systems. These mostly do not succeed over the hobby scale level however entrepreneurs may be succeeding in various niche markets in terms of profitability. Ohio contacts include Matt Smith, OSU aquaculture extension specialist (smith.11460@osu.edu), Ohio Center for Aquaculture Research and Development at OSU South Centers (website: https://southcenters.osu.edu/aquaculture), and Bill Lynch president OH Aquaculture Association (OAA). OAA has their annual aquaculture meeting Jan 27-28, 2017 (See OAA website at:http://ohioaquaculture.org/events.html ) and I will be there along with Matt, Bill and various producers. If you have specific questions you can email or call me directly as well.
