Bark Peeling off Ash Tree

Asked November 8, 2016, 5:09 PM EST

We have a 25 yr. old ash tree, that a piece of bark is peeling off. The size of the peeling bark is a few inches from the ground, about 6 inches wide and about 24 inches long. On examination there doesn't appear to be any bugs. About a year ago, we had a branch removed that is about 6 feet above this tear.

It looks like the tree was wounded near ground level at some point. Monitor the canopy to keep tabs on the overall health of the tree. If it is healthy it will produce leaves that are normal size and the canopy should be solid not sparse.
