sour cherry trees

What sour cherry tree does well in Madison County? Where would I buy this tree? What size is best to plant? Is fall a good time to plant? Which is best...dwarf or reg size? Thank you! Helen

Hi Helen. The best tart cherries to plant here in Kentucky are Montmorency, Danube, Surefire, or North Star. Fall is the best time to plant.
I would choose a semi dwarf variety. This would give you some height but if managed well would still be shorter than a full size tree.
I am not sure where you might find this type of tree locally. If you would like to call me to discuss, my number is 859-623-4072. or email me at amanda.sears@uky.edu.
