Can you tell me what this plant is?

Trying to identify the plant in the picture - it looks like a type of grass/bamboo. These plants are about 8 ft tall yet were completely mowed down this past June. Ones that were not mowed down are easily 12+ feet tall and the stems are 1-2 inches across. They are all over on a 12 acre property we own in the heart of Jacksonville, FL. Thank you!

Hi - From a distance, this appears to be common reed (Phragmites australis). This reed typically grows in shallow water, or at least very wet soils.

It's possibly another reed species such as Silk Reed (Neyraudia reynaudiana) or giant reed (arundo donax)

You can take a plant to your Duval County Extension office to get a more certain identification.
