Rotten pecans

Asked October 26, 2016, 6:53 PM EDT

We have a mature pecan tree that has never produced a good pecan. They are rotten on the inside. They are the large pecans. Where do we start to figure out how to fix our problem. Thank you.

More than likely what has happened is the tree has been starved of water during the kernel fill stage of development. July and August are the critical time for the pecan kernel fill stage - and for the last 3-4 years - rain in those months have been extremely short.

If rain or supplemental water is not applied during those times - the kernel just dries up.
