If I slaughter a calf do I have to put it in a cooler or can I put it on ice like a pig or deer

Either way, you will want to remove the heat from the carcass to preserve the meat. After slaughter ( or harvesting wild game) we remove the innards (called offal), the hide and, if possible, de-bone the carcass to quickly get the meat cooled and kept cool.
