Kitchen infested with fruit flies. Help, help, help!!!! I've tried traps with the following attractants and they are not attracted at all. 1) Apple cider vinegar, 2) Unfiltered apple cider vinegar, 3) Yeast and sugar and water and 4) Red wine. Do you have any other suggestions? Thank you, Sidney Cohen

Fruit flies / vinegar flies simply cannot resist the attractants that you've tried; the evidence strongly suggests that you don't have these flies. Here are some other possibilities to consider: fungus gnats; Phorid flies; and drain flies. These flies are similar in size and appearance to fruit / vinegar flies, but there are some important distinguishing characteristics that you'll need to look closely to see. It may be helpful to use some form of magnification. Of course, it's critical to make a correct identification in order to develop an effective control strategy. Here is a very good fact sheet from a very good entomologist in Texas (we have the same flies!): http://citybugs.tamu.edu/files/2016/05/ENTO-050.pdf
