Spiked type

Asked October 11, 2016, 7:33 PM EDT

I have spiked green plants similar to yucca but not hardy. I put it in our basement every year and it is now heavy and about 3' wide & 4'high. Can it be cut back or not? Thanks

Hello, and thanks for using the Ask an Expert System,

It is difficult to answer your question without seeing the plant. If it is a yucca it can be trimmed back. This typically involves removing the lower leaves to expose the trunk, and cutting the stem. This stump should regrow new leaves at the top.

If you have additional questions I suggest that you contact your local Penn State Extension Office.
