Asked October 8, 2016, 12:03 PM EDT

I have a star magnolia tree approx. 10 years old and 20 ft high. In late September I noticed rings of holes around the trunk starting 5ft above the ground and randomly going up the tree trunk. Many branched are turning yellow, wilting leaves. Please Help

Based on your photos the holes look like possible woodpecker or sapsucker holes.

This time of year trees are getting ready to drop their foliage. There should be enough carbohydrates stored in the root system to put out new growth next spring. If you are noticing symptoms next season, send us photos so we can see what you may be dealing with.
