Kwanzan Cherry Leaves Turning Brown

Asked October 3, 2016, 12:46 PM EDT

I have a Kwanzan Cherry tree that is more than 25 years old. In the spring and now in the fall, leaves have turned completely brown on random branches. All the leaves on a branch turn brown. This is on maybe 1/6 or less of the branches. I provide a closeup of a few branches with brown leaves and a picture of the entire tree. A garden center had me spray a fungicide on the tree in the Spring. I do not know if that helped. What is the problem? Is there anything I can do?

This looks like a fungal disease called brown rot on ornamental cherries. This is an issue in wet spring weather. We do not recommend chemical control.
All you can do is prune affected branches in dry weather and dispose of in the landfill. Here is our link about it
