Small landscape tree needed

Asked October 2, 2016, 10:23 AM EDT

I need a small tree to plant in our front yard; similar in size to a Japanese Maple. The site gets full sun and we don't irrigate. We can manually water until established.

Thanks for your question to Ask Extension!

This is the third time I've tried to respond and my reply 'disappears'. It's a computer problem and I'll try a more complete answer at another time. In the meantime, I suggest you visit the 'street trees' exhibit at The Arboretum. These were planted a few years ago by KU volunteers and are varieties that do not grow enough to interfere with power lines. The exhibit is on the 'water tower' side of the Walk Across KY and near the Visitor's Center. Tree IDs are on metal stobs at each tree.
Once you've selected a tree, even if it's not one of these, you will want to read two UK publications, HO-113 and HO-114 which deal with planting trees that are bare root and trees from containers, respectively. I'll send the links when the computing system is more friendly, so to speak! I hope this helps!

Please continue the conversation if you wish! Again, I hope this helps!
