Asked October 1, 2016, 9:59 AM EDT

I planted Heritage raspberries 3 years ago. The first year I got a small harvest but last year and this year I have had problems. Last year the berries were shrunken and gray this year almost no berries and the leaves are all turning brown as shown in the Pictures. can you help? What is the problem? Can I do anything about it?

You may be dealing with several issues such as root rots and/or cane blight, etc.
Check the crowns of the plants. Make sure the crowns are not soft and the soil is draining well. Dig up a plant and check the roots. Make sure they are not brown and mushy. If so, the plants are most likely not coming back. Cleanup the bed, make sure soil drains well, and replant next spring.

Cane blight - shows as dark-brown to purple, sunken cankers with dark margins near pruning cuts or wounds. Prune back to healthy tissue. Practice good sanitation. See more information on disease issues so you can be aware of it. http://extension.umd.edu/growit/diseases-brambles

Once leaves turn brown or drop cut stems to about an inch at the base. Remove diseased plants and put in the landfill.
