wintering geraniums

Asked September 28, 2016, 4:47 PM EDT

I have geraniums in pots on an outside deck where it probably won't be below freezing very much this winter. Should i cut them back for the winter? can I plant daffodils etc. in the same pots with them or do I need to take them out and put in new ones next spring?

Thank you for your question about overwintering geraniums. Here is an excellent article. http://www.extension.iastate.edu/article/yard-and-garden-properly-overwintering-geraniums.
Geraniums do best when given an opportunity to rest for the winter in a more controlled environment than our porches .

As to the daffodil bulb question, I would venture to say no as they are out and about before it is time for the geraniums to be outside. I did read once about tulips and geraniums . That slightly later time difference may be the key. Good luck!
