Want to Start a Program in my Area

Asked September 27, 2016, 5:01 PM EDT

I am interested in helping facilitate an improved school breakfast/lunch program in my community in Upstate South Carolina. Do you have someone with the appropriate knowledge of this process to answer some of my questions and assist in potential planning for this effort? Many thanks, Pam Strickland

Dear Pam, Thank you very much for your question and interest in getting started with improved school meal programs! There are many resources out there that can help you with this. I suggest that you contact: Ben Madden (bmadden@ed.sc.gov). He is the SC DOE contact for the Office of Health and Nutrition and oversees the Smarter Lunchrooms Movement. You can read more about that here: http://ed.sc.gov/districts-schools/nutrition/smarter-lunchroom-movement-southern-style/ he also oversees the National School Meal Program in SC. You can read more about that here: http://ed.sc.gov/districts-schools/nutrition/national-school-lunch-program/. He should be able to point you towards programs and resources in your state to get you started.
