Pruning an elm tree

Asked September 27, 2016, 9:02 AM EDT

We planted this American Liberty Elm tree in 2006. That is a yard stick leaning against the trunk to show the height of it. Do we need to remove those bottom four or five branches, or will those branches be farther off the ground as the tree grows taller? Can you help us decide what to do? Thanks so much for your help!

The branches will always be in the same place they do not move upwards as the tree grows. You can remove branches you feel are too low. You could do it now or wait until the early spring (March)
