What plant is this?

Not sure what this plant is? It was planted in a vegetable patch so it is likely to be either edible or decorative. I live in Brisbane, Australia which has a subtropical climate.

Hi,

My first guess is chicory.
It's edible but the leaves are very bitter. The roots are used to make a coffee substitute, The chicory I'm familiar with has bule flowers with small petals.
If the flower doesn't look like that it might be dock, a weed with some herbal medicine value.
The flowers are helpful for identification.

cheers,
Stephanie
