Pruning Roses for winter

Asked September 26, 2016, 3:02 PM EDT

Hello, We recently bought a new house that has a lot of rose bushes and they grown from own root. Now fall has arrive we have to prune them for winter and I was wondering if you could share the basics to pruning these roses? Any info will help.

Spring is the best time to prune roses, but you can do it in the fall as well. Here is info from the MN Rose Society: http://minnesotarosesociety.org/general-rose-care/

Maybe pruning was the wrong thing to ask? what do I do to get them ready for winter? Do I cut them all down? Not sure what to do and we have a lot of them. Fills out whole blvd in front of the house.
