Live beef exports

Asked September 26, 2016, 9:11 AM EDT

Hello! I'm doing research on live cattle exports, specifically the international shipments. I'm wondering 1) if kentucky/US producers have a role in that process, and 2) any idea of the life cycle stage that these cows would be shipped out?

US beef imports and exports are very significant, however live cattle represent a very small portion of this. Further, the US imports a lot more cattle than they export. Live cattle that are imported from Mexico and Canada represent both feeder cattle and fed cattle, and are finished and processed in the US. Live cattle exports are very small - amounting to less than 100,000 head in 2015.
