What plant is this?
We've had this growing in our garden and can't figure out if it's a weed or something my father may have planted. Any help is very appreciated!

This looks like common ragweed.
They are tricky because when young, they look a lot like marigold foliage.
This is the plant that can cause hayfever allergies. Those are flowering spikes, though they don't look very pretty.
Yellow goldenrod blooms noticeably at the same time and often gets the blame for allergies, but this one is the culprit.
