Is "Bordeaux Spray" organic

Asked September 21, 2016, 12:31 PM EDT

I have what I can best determine is "Apple Scab." Is "Bordeaux spray" an effective deterrent for this issue? Also, I am assuming that a thorough washing of the fruit is required?

I am going to assume this is a backyard tree and not a commercial operation. There used to be a home product called Bordeaux but it is not available anymore. You would have to mix it yourself using copper sulfate and hydrated lime:

It is not easy to make and you might not use it all. Organic, yes, according to the national definition. Some certifying agencies might have other opinions.
As for apple scab control there are many things you can do to lower the disease pressure and those can be found here:

Pay attention to the cultural controls and look for an H in the box for home materials and an O in the box for organic materials. Lime sulfur would be the better material but could be very hard to find.
