White CALLAS bloomed, not cannas.

Asked September 16, 2016, 3:44 PM EDT

I planted callas and cannas in containers early in my basement, then carried then out to a sunny spot when temps warmed. The foliage is beautiful but no blooms on cannas, and only 4 white callas, no yellow blooms. These are bulbs a few years old, and didn't bloom last year either.

The most common reasons are not enough sun or too much nitrogen. Fertlize only once each spring and with a fertilizer that has a low first (nitrogen) number. See the following for information on callas and cannas: http://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/yard-garden/flowers/calla-and-canna-lilies/ . If you can try to replicate the recommended environment you should have better luck next year, although you may want to replace the ones that are not performing with fresh rhizomes as they may not be strong enough to rebloom.
