Best Lawn Grass for Bethesda MD

Asked September 16, 2016, 12:50 PM EDT

We are about to overseed and to seed some bare ground in our lawn. Currently, the lawn is mostly tall fescue, but we're willing to move in a different direction if it will improve the health of the lawn. Would we do best to stay with a fescue mix or should we introduce perennial rye grass.

Tall fescue is definitely superior to perennial rye for Maryland due to disease susceptibility. You could introduce a percentage of fine fescue if you have a lot of shade. https://extension.umd.edu/sites/default/files/_images/programs/hgic/Publications/HG102%20Lawn%20Esta...
