At this time of year it is a little late to using seed to start swiss chard. Our first frost date can be quite variable running from the middle/end of October to the middle of November. If you still want to try to grow it I would recommend using transplants instead - this will save you several weeks. The attached publication gives recommended planting dates for a number of vegetables. Many can be grown for both spring and fall crops.
