Accolade Elm- Why Are Leaves Turning Brown?

Asked September 15, 2016, 11:02 AM EDT

I have an Accolade Elm approximately 3" DBH, planted BB in the fall of 2014. This year was the first year it has put on any significant growth, but recently the leaves have begun slowly turning brown and falling off (see attached photos). Other than raking and disposing of the leaves to prevent future infection and watering as needed, is there anything I should be doing to treat this tree?

What you have observed and what we can see in the photos might simply be evidence that the growing season is nearly over and the tree will soon be bare.

If that's not the case and you continue to be concerned, ask a certified arborist or forester to assess the tree's health onsite and recommend a course of action.
