White Ash Tree shallow roots and decorative block

Asked September 14, 2016, 11:12 PM EDT

I have a White Ash tree in my front yard. I just purchased the home and the tree has a decorative block ring surrounding it with mulch and flowers inside the ring. My issue is the tree has shallow roots and has pushed up the decorative block in all sorts of angles. Is a good solution to attempt to notch the block so that the block is level over the roots? What would be your suggestion? Thanks - Juston Anderson

Yes, that sounds like a good solution. Things you should not do: cut the roots or change the grade level of the soil. Read here:
