can you tell me please why almost every species of pine is without any cones this year my husband and I HAVE BEEN PICKING CONES FOR YEARS FOR REFORESTATION AND ARE COMPLETELY BAFFLED.
Lewis County New York
I'm thinking that our early spring conditions wiped them out, along with a lot of fruit buds. Winter was exceptionally warm, followed by a significant freeze the first week in April. Probably the elongated shoots at the beginning of the cone formation process were frozen. Refer to the link below for more information on the cone formation process. Thank you for the work you are doing. https://www.reference.com/science/pine-cone-form-27de136a42d8cca9
