almonds don't split

Asked September 9, 2016, 3:24 PM EDT

My almond trees had almonds for the first time last year. they didn't split though and we could never get into them even with a hammer. this year the two trees are covered but what if they never split? they are changing color now?

Could you send me a photo of your plant which includes pictures of the foliage and nuts? We don't grow almonds here so, I am afraid that you have a plant that may not be edible! You can email your photos directly to me at sasc@ufl.edu or, if you live near Cocoa you could just bring me a sample. Call me at (321) 633-1702 ext. 222 if you have questions.
