How to stop clay bank from eroding using bulk wildflower seeds

Asked September 8, 2016, 12:33 PM EDT

We need your advice! We live in Fridley and have a clay bank that, with all the summer rainfall, has developed deep rivulets, causing major erosion. We are considering sowing wildflower seeds this fall. Is that a good idea and is fall the best time to do it?

I don't think wildflower seeds are the answer for you. They will not germinate quickly enough nor do they have deep enough roots to begin with. You should consider a ground cover instead. Take a look at our suggestions on this site. Remember that a lot of those perennials are on sale this time of year: http://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/landscaping/maint/ground_covers.html
