My trumpet vine MONSTER

Asked September 7, 2016, 3:21 PM EDT

The vine has been growing for 4 years- is gorgeous, tall and full of blooms. It gets nice sun and water. How do I keep it from sending out hundreds of sprouts, which are hard to cut out of the lawn. The lawn under the vine is really sick. My lawn soil is a bit compacted. I add topsoil every year. Please tell me I don't have to kill it.

Trumpet vine can send out shoots. Keep the lawn mowed to deplete the reserves in the root system. If you want to use an herbicide to control, you will have to contact your extension as we cannot make pesticide recommendations across state lines.
