When to harvest purple grape

Asked September 6, 2016, 5:05 PM EDT

We have a brand of purple seeded grape, (type unknown), that is dark red/purple in cocolowith a frosty look. The grapes have a jelly like core. Are these wine grapes or are they just not ripe yet?

Different grapes have a different look when ripe. Since you don't know what variety you have, the best test for ripeness is to taste them. They should be sweet but tart. Also, the seeds should be brown, not green.

Any grape can be used to make wine. Of course, some varieties make better wine.
