Snake identification

Hello! Wondering if anyone there can identify a snake seen in Sweden.

Outside United States

1 Response

Certainly. This is a Grass Snake (Natrix natrix). It is a non-venomous species of snake that eats amphibians. It is one of three species of snakes found in Sweden. The others are the Smooth Snake (Coronella austriaca), which is harmless and eats lizards and small mammals, and the European Adder (Vipera berus), which is a venomous viper that eats small mammals.
