why didn't my silver maple tree produce seeds this year?

Asked September 5, 2016, 4:47 PM EDT

I live in northeast Indiana. I have a 20-year old silver maple tree in my backyard. Last year we had an over-abundance of seed production and the tree's leaf production was minimal. This year we have had no seeds produced from the tree. I read that last year's over production was possibly a result of stress from a bad winter. Is this year's lack of production a result of last year's over-production?

That is a possible scenario. I would just rejoice you had little seed to contend with this year. Watch the overall health of the tree. Make assessments each year at the same time to see if the tree is in decline.
