Should I remove my oak with Bur Oak Blight?

Asked September 4, 2016, 3:47 PM EDT

Hello, I have an old Bur Oak tree with Bur Oak Blight. It has lost all but a few leaves in the last three years. I am starting to notice surrounding Bur Oaks with the same symptoms. Should I remove the tree to save others around it?

Thank you for your advice. I sent leaves into the U of M extension office in Hutchinson, and they said it was BOB. With the extra reading I have been doing on the subject, I can not get a yes or no answer about removing the tree. I attached a photo, don't know if you will be able to make the tree out, but it is in the center. I just want to keep other trees from coming down with BOB.

If it was mine I would remove it soon. It was a beautiful tree and I feel your loss.
