Zone 3a Crabapple that makes red applesauce

Asked September 4, 2016, 3:21 PM EDT

We just bought a home in Soudan, MN near Lake Vermillion. Mature fruit trees are common in many lots in the tiny old mining town of Soudan. My house has two apple trees. One tree has small red crab apples that produced a consistent red apple sauce. Is this a named apple or not? I think "Vermillion applesauce" would be a great compliment to a future local food-based restaurant nearby planned by a friend. If it's not named I will make my own grafts from the tree.
