This plant has flowered for the second time since I planted it last time was either 5 or 7 years ago but there was only 1 stem last time it seems to have split into two stems now

Howdy,

It appears to be some species of yucca, and specifically one that was selected for its ornamental variegated foliage. Most yuccas tend to flower in late spring and do so every year. It is common for them to send up "pups" or "suckers" (which is why you would have two plants now), which can be divided off and planted somewhere else.

I hope this helps!
