Willow with a problem

Asked August 30, 2016, 6:19 PM EDT

I've attached a picture for someone to help me determine what is wrong with my Scower Willow that was purchased from Bosky Dell Nursery this past spring and planted in my back yard. About2-3 months ago it started sending shoots out everywhere in odd places and many of the leaves have this formation in the leaves. Can someone help me identify this and provide a solution? Thanks for your question about your willow tree's 'bumps.' These appear to be galls which are caused by mites. Here's a link to an article about them. They are caused by mites. It's too late to treat them now, but, as this article points out, an insecticidal oil or miticide can be helpful next spring, 7 - 10 days before the flower bud is to open.

Good luck!
