Saskatoon Serviceberry

Asked August 29, 2016, 10:23 PM EDT

I have, what I am pretty sure is a saskatoon serviceberry on my property. My question though is I have white berries growing on the bush, the berries have already gone from green to the ripe reddish/purple. There were no berries for 2-3 weeks then just today I noticed bunches of white berries. Is this normal and are they edible? I was also wondering if maybe this wasn't actually a serviceberry bush. I haven't been able to find any pictures of the white berries online anywhere to compare with. Thank you very much for you time. P.S. The berries are soft as if they were ripe.

Hi there-
Could possibly be snowberry, but I really can't tell anything without a photo or two! Can you please send directly to my office email: christine.crouse@colostate.edu and we'll see what it is!
Thanks!
Chris
