Linden Tree damage

Asked August 28, 2016, 8:04 PM EDT

I have some holes in one of my linden trees that I just noticed this week. They look similar to the emerald ash borer holes that I saw on my ash trees. does anybody know what this could be and should I do something to limit damage.

Emerald Ash Borer adults will leave a D-shaped exit hole in the tree trunk. From your photos it is hard to distinguish an exact 'D-shape'. A Yellow-bellied Sapsucker will cause similar damage to a tree, as depicted in your photos. Here are a few good websites to visit to see if your trees have all the signs of an EAB infestation:

I would suggest you contact your local University of Wisconsin Extension office to get an accurate diagnosis of your tree's problem so you can begin a prescription treatment. ~DOT
