Squirrels in the attic

Asked August 26, 2016, 3:51 PM EDT

Probably not something you could comment on, but I have a squirrel(s) that have accessed my home. Not sure if they're only in the interior of the soffit space (as their entry point was through a hole they chewed in the vinyl soffit under the eaves), or if they're actually in other locations. Often it sounds like they are between the first and second floor. Trying to decide if I need to call a professional or whether your office may have knowledge to help rid the squirrels from my house.

Hello - thanks for your question. If you can access the area they are in, you can set a trap and then work on sealing all points of entry. Here is a link to our publication on Managing Tree Squirrel Problems in KY: http://www2.ca.uky.edu/agcomm/pubs/for/for45/for45.htm. Another publication that may be helpful is How to Pest Proof Your Home , which can be found at the following link: https://entomology.ca.uky.edu/files/efpdf3/ef641.pdf. If you are not comfortable with trapping them yourself, then I would call in a professional.
I hope this helps!
