I am wanting to improve my lawn. What is the best type of grass to add to my lawn? when to plant? When to fertilize?

Hi Debbie,

If you have a lawn that is thinning due to shady conditions, you may consider seeding a shade adapted blue grass variety, or fine fescue into your lawn. Otherwise you may want to consider a hybrid bluegrass variety which can be pretty heat tolerant. Check out these links on rejuvenating a lawn:

If you go with a bluegrass you can plant it in September. You will want to add some starter fertilizer if you end up seeding. Any lawn will benefit from a nitrogen fertilizer in September or November. Here is a link on that subject:

I hope that this is helpful.
